The Schwenker (the Saarlandian BBQ emcee) will barbecue Schwenker (the traditional Saarlandian cut of pork neck) on a Schwenker (the traditional Saarlandian swinging grill). As a vegetarian option, grilled Feta cheese will also be available. If you have additional dietary constraints, please let us know during the registration process or via email.
Thursday, September 27th
On Thursday, the conference dinner will be held at the restaurant “Zum Stiefel” in Saarbrücken. One of the oldest restaurants of Saarbrücken with more than 300 years of tradition, the Stiefel restaurant is located at “Am Stiefel 2”, right next to the central market square of the St. Johann district.
Friday, September 28th
Following the conference, we will offer an optional excursion to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Völklingen Steelworks on Friday afternoon.
The Saarland has a long history of coal mining and steel production. Much of the steel production was located in the town of Völklingen at the steelworks, which opened in 1883. After decommissioning the steelworks in Völklingen in 1986, the site was turned into an industrial museum and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. Today, one can experience the full production process there, including climbing the blast furnaces. Additionally, the museum hosts a rotation of art and history exhibitions.
After the conference ends, we will offer an optional excursion to the museum to visit the site. We plan to be back in Saarbrücken by 7 in the evening. Train tickets, entrance fee, and meals during the excursion are not part of the registration fee.
